Qualifications and Experience:
- Possession of a valid certification such as EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) with a score of 4.0 or higher, or an equivalent assessment.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong grasp of interpreting techniques for K-12 settings.
- Experience working with diverse age groups and communication needs.
- Professionalism, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.
- Familiarity with the unique dynamics of educational interpretation (preferred, but not required).
Role Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear, effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff.
- Adapt interpreting styles to match various classroom settings and student needs.
- Foster an accessible and positive learning environment.
- Support students during classroom instruction, assemblies, and school activities.
- Maintain ethical standards of confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
