Job Summary: As a Fire Alarm Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm systems in various settings, ensuring compliance with safety codes and regulations. Your role is crucial in safeguarding lives and property by ensuring that fire alarm systems are functional and effective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation:
- Install fire alarm systems in buildings according to blueprints, design specifications, and manufacturer's instructions.
- Mount control panels, detectors, annunciators, and other system components as per layout plans.
- Testing and Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inspections and testing of fire alarm systems to ensure they are operational and meet safety standards.
- Test circuits, sensors, and other system components to identify faults and ensure proper functioning.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks to keep systems in good working condition.
- Repairs and Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning fire alarm systems promptly to minimize downtime.
- Replace defective components and ensure proper calibration and operation of alarms.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of installations, inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Prepare reports detailing findings and actions taken during inspections and repairs.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure installations and repairs comply with relevant codes, regulations, and standards.
- Stay updated on industry developments, codes, and regulations related to fire alarm systems.
- Customer Service:
- Communicate effectively with customers, building owners, and other stakeholders regarding system installations, maintenance, and repairs.
- Provide training to building occupants on how to use fire alarm systems effectively in emergency situations.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond promptly to emergency calls and alarms to address system issues or malfunctions.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications preferred.
- Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Technician or similar role.
- Knowledge of fire alarm system components, wiring, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Familiarity with fire codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to lift and move equipment and work in confined spaces.
Work Environment:
- Work may be performed indoors in various settings such as commercial buildings, residences, or industrial facilities.
- On-call availability may be required for emergency repairs or system maintenance.
- Potential exposure to hazards associated with electrical systems and construction sites.
