Program Overview
The Idaho HealthCorps (IHC) AmeriCorps program partners community members with non-profits across Idaho. These community members serve in paid volunteer positions called AmeriCorps positions. These positions offer community members the opportunity to receive support while volunteering with their favorite non-profit. The opportunity is offered each year from Sept 1- Aug 31. The IHC program focuses on health screenings, health education, and promotion of overall health.
Position Description
*This is a paid community service opportunity*
The AmeriCorps member will serve with Rolling Tomato as a Food Recovery Assistant and be a part of the food recovery movement in the Treasure Valley. The member will help rescue nutritious food and deliver it safely to priority populations. The member will promote health, wellness, and strengthen Idaho support systems. members gain valuable professional skills and experience in education, nonprofit operations, and engagement. members do not participate in prohibited activities. members do not supplement, duplicate, or displace staff members at Rolling Tomato. members with this program have recurring access to vulnerable populations.
Health Education:
- Educate populations served about the importance of nutrition
- Connect with local community organizations to provide food assistance
- Pick up and deliver nutritious food to priority populations
Program Support:
- Engage community volunteers
- Assisting with marketing/social media regarding health education and food assistance/recovery
- Qualitative/quantitative analysis
- Help plan and prepare for events
Benefits
- Living allowance of $1,087.50-1,305 total per month before taxes distributed biweekly (depending on contract length)
- Education Award of $3,697.40 to be used toward qualifying education expenses and student loans
- Student Loan Forbearance and Interest Forgiveness
Requirements
- Must be 17 years or older
- Must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
- Pass a background check
- Have a good driving record
- Complete 900 hours of service between enrollment and 8/31/2027
- Participate in required training and service events
- Avoid Prohibited Activities during service
