General Summary
Trident Literacy Association is seeking dedicated and dynamic ESL Instructors to join our team. In this role, you will provide high-quality English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to adult learners at various proficiency levels. Instructors will lead classes, facilitate conversation practice, and support curriculum planning to ensure effective instruction. Regular training will be provided to maintain certification and stay current with state and organizational assessment policies.
Class Times
We are currently hiring for teaching shifts:
- Tuesdays and Thursdays: 10am–12:00pm
This position pays $30 per hour with possibility of renewal and potential for additional hours based on scheduling needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver ESL instruction in alignment with established curriculum guidelines.
- Plan and implement engaging lessons using the Ventures Curriculum or Stand Out (Basic through Level 4).
- Teach assigned classes consistently, maintaining punctuality and professionalism.
- Facilitate conversation practice to strengthen student speaking and listening skills.
- Support multi-level classes as assigned, adapting strategies to student needs.
- Allocate sufficient planning time to prepare effective instructional sessions.
- Collaborate with colleagues to evaluate student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
- Participate in training sessions, including:
- Student Data Confidentiality Agreement
- BEST Plus Certification
- SC Assessment Policy Training
- Annual ESL Instructor Orientation
- Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and assessment records.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with students, colleagues, and administrators.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, TESOL, or related field required.
- Certification: ESL teaching certification (TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, etc.) preferred.
- Prior experience teaching ESL to diverse populations preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons for various proficiency levels.
- Familiarity with ESL assessment practices.
- Commitment to professional growth and ongoing training.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move around the classroom and interact effectively with students.
- Clear vision and hearing to assess student participation and respond appropriately.
- Manual dexterity for teaching aids and maintaining accurate records.
- Stamina to lead both morning and evening classes with consistent energy.
- Adaptability to meet the needs of diverse learners and adjust teaching methods as needed.
