Job Summary
Cal Lowbed Service is seeking an experienced, safety-first CDL Class A Heavy Haul Driver to join our premier fleet. In this role, you will safely transport oversized, overweight, and highly valuable cargo, including heavy construction equipment, industrial machinery, and infrastructure components.

Core Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Machinery: Safely drive commercial motor vehicles with multi-axle configurations, lowboys, step-decks, sliding axles, and Removable Gooseneck (RGN) trailers.
- Load Securement: Secure oversized equipment using high-tensile chains, binders, blocks, and straps to guarantee zero cargo shifting during transit.
- Route Planning: Review and execute specialized route planning for oversized loads, carefully avoiding weight-restricted roads, low-clearance bridges, and unauthorized zones.
- Permit Compliance: Ensure all state-mandated oversize/overweight permits, escort vehicle coordination, and required banners/flags are legally compliant before moving.
- Safety Inspections: Perform rigorous pre-trip and post-trip mechanical and safety inspections on both tractor and complex trailer units.
- Regulatory Logs: Maintain flawless electronic logging device (ELD) records and hours-of-service (HOS) logs in total compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations.
- Team Communication: Coordinate seamlessly with dispatchers, project managers, spotters, and pilot car drivers to ensure smooth transit.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Licensure: Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of verified Class A driving experience.
- Specialized Experience: At least 2 years specifically dedicated to heavy haul or oversized loads.
- Trailer Proficiency: Proven experience operating and loading lowboys, RGNs, and step-decks.
- Medical Certification: Valid DOT Medical Card.
- Endorsements: Doubles/Triples endorsements preferred.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to handle the physical demands of chaining, binding, and climbing onto trailers in varying weather conditions.
- Screening: Must pass a mandatory pre-employment DOT drug screen and comprehensive background check.
