The Humane Educational Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal shelter. Our mission at HES is to provide a safe haven for homeless, abused and neglected animals in our community and advocate on their behalf.
The Animal Care Associate provides a clean, safe, humane and comfortable stay for animals in the shelter. Ensuring that shelter animals have the highest quality care is essential to what we do at HES. We are looking for motivated, compassionate individuals who want to make a difference. All duties must be carried out according to procedures for the wellbeing of animals in our care.
The following is intended to provide a snapshot of day-to-day duties at the Humane Educational Society. It is not an exhaustive list of assigned duties:
Job description:
· Maintains a pleasant, patient, and professional attitude toward coworkers, volunteers, and the public, even in high stress situations and engages in productive problem solving
· Provides food and water to shelter animals daily; bathes and grooms animals when asked to do so
· Cleans and disinfects assigned dog, cat, and critter enclosures, using chemicals and equipment
· Receives, handles and kennels animals of different species with appropriate caution and care, these animals may be aggressive, sick or injured
· Observes animals for overall health or behavior problems and reports issues immediately
· Assists the public with pet adoption and lost pets in a professional, courteous manner
· Provides accurate information in a clear and concise manner to the public
· Prepares and provides enrichment for shelter animals
· Performs laundry duties as assigned
· Trains and works constructively with volunteers
· Medicates animals according to procedures when instructed
· Assist triage as requested by medical team with incoming animals
· Maintains a tidy and sanitary work area on a daily basis, including work rooms, floors, and public spaces
· Supports the mission of HES on and off the job
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and abilities:
· A high school diploma or GED
· One year relevant customer service, cleaning, and/or animal experience
· Commitment to animal welfare mission of HES
· Open-minded, collaborative attitude
· General knowledge of domestic animals
· Handles domestic animals with appropriate care and caution
· Performs duties with high degree of efficiency and care to detail
· Incorporates supervisory feedback into work
· Engages in learning about best practices, animal welfare, and care
· Communicates effectively and professionally with public, coworkers, volunteers
· Moderate to high ability to perform physical tasks, including but not limited to standing, bending, lifting, walking, reaching, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be available mornings, weekends, and some holidays. Overtime and holiday pay offered. Part-time schedules will vary.
