The Bartender at Veranda Restaurant & Bar is responsible for creating exceptional guest experiences through outstanding hospitality, expert beverage knowledge, and the preparation of high quality cocktails, beer, and wine. This position plays a key role in shaping the atmosphere of the restaurant and bar by providing friendly, attentive, and engaging service while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient bar.
As one of the primary faces of Veranda Restaurant & Bar, the bartender is expected to build relationships with guests, drive beverage sales, and consistently deliver an elevated dining experience that reflects the Cambria brand. Success in this role requires adaptability in a highly seasonal market, thriving during both fast-paced summer operations and the relationship driven local business of the off season.
Essential Responsibilities
Guest Experience
- Welcome every guest with genuine enthusiasm and professionalism.
- Create memorable guest experiences through engaging conversation and personalized recommendations.
- Build relationships with repeat guests, Choice Privileges members, hotel guests, and local patrons.
- Deliver prompt, accurate, and attentive service while anticipating guest needs.
- Resolve guest concerns professionally and involve management when appropriate.
- Promote a welcoming, energetic, and upscale atmosphere throughout every shift.
Beverage Knowledge & Mixology
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of classic cocktails, modern craft cocktails, wine, beer, spirits, and non alcoholic beverages.
- Prepare beverages with consistency, precision, and proper presentation.
- Maintain knowledge of premium liquors, bourbons, tequilas, whiskeys, vodkas, gins, rums, and specialty liqueurs.
- Recommend pairings that complement menu offerings.
- Develop seasonal cocktails that reflect local ingredients, holidays, and beach themed experiences.
- Stay current on beverage trends and continually improve mixology skills.
- Properly garnish and present every beverage to Veranda standards.
Seasonal Adaptability
- Thrive in a fast paced, high volume summer environment while maintaining exceptional service standards.
- Transition seamlessly into the off season by creating personalized experiences that encourage repeat local business.
- Adapt staffing priorities and workflow based upon changing business demands.
- Support hotel events, weddings, banquets, holiday celebrations, and community functions.
- Maintain urgency and efficiency during peak tourism periods while preserving quality and hospitality.
Sales & Revenue Generation
- Maximize beverage revenue through suggestive selling and product knowledge.
- Promote featured cocktails, seasonal drink menus, wine selections, and premium spirits.
- Recommend appetizers and menu enhancements to increase guest satisfaction and average check.
- Assist in executing beverage promotions and special events.
Bar Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar throughout every shift.
- Follow all recipes, portion controls, and presentation standards.
- Monitor inventory and communicate product needs before shortages occur.
- Assist with receiving, stocking, rotation, and organization of beer, wine, liquor, and mixers.
- Ensure garnishes and fresh ingredients are prepared daily.
- Follow all cash handling and POS procedures accurately.
- Maintain compliance with all health department regulations and responsible alcohol service requirements.
Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with servers, kitchen staff, hotel leadership, and fellow bartenders.
- Assist team members during busy service periods.
- Maintain positive communication across all departments.
- Support the success of hotel events and banquet functions when needed.
- Contribute to a culture built on professionalism, accountability, and hospitality.
Qualifications
- Previous bartending experience in an upscale restaurant, hotel, or resort environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of craft cocktails, beer, wine, and spirits.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak seasonal periods.
- Responsible alcohol service certification as required by state law.
