Shift Hours: Monday - Friday (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) Includes evenings and Saturdays, as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in genealogy and local history research preferred
- Previous library work experience preferred (volunteer work considered)
- Basic computer skills required
- Experience with automated library catalog, Internet search skills and social media platforms
- Experience with copy cataloging and creating/editing metadata, preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well with library customers and other staff members
- Good communication skills, oral and written
- Ability to organize work priorities
- Ability to accomplish objectives in a team setting
- Physical ability to perform responsibilities as listed
- Must pass background investigation
- Valid TX Driver's License and clean driving record
- Must have ability to work in person, not remote
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
- Provides excellent customer service to visitors of all ages with their research needs, including group tours, orientations and research instructions, and programs
- Assists visitors with the use of computers, printers, standard software, electronic databases and equipment. Ensures technology is performing correctly
- Instructs visitors in the use of all types of media digitization equipment operation and genealogy research methods
- Monitors social media, replies or answers questions
- Prepares manuscripts, periodicals, and books for the bindery. Coordinates shipping and receiving, and budgets agreements with Administration
- Informs public of the policy and procedures of the center and the library system
- Processes Interlibrary loans for the center in coordination with the Reference Interlibrary loan staff, and maintaining files for ILL’s
- Serves as the center’s liaison to technical services, providing copy cataloging with record additions and subject headings for the center
- Prepares annual supply orders and controls inventory of supplies with assistance from the Library Assistant II (PT Genealogy)
- Responds to telephone, mail, and email questions, and reference queries and obituary records
- Oversees and participates in projects, and coordinates services, within the center as needed
- Maintains the appearance and order of the center: shelving materials, shifting books, straightening furniture, staffing the welcome desk
- Uses Microsoft Office for the maintenance and circulation of correspondences, statistics, supply lists and other reports
- Assists in the administration of the center in the absence of the Genealogy Manager
- Assists with purchase requisitions for book orders, materials and vendor communications
- Oversees staff calendar in coordination with Genealogy Manager
- Participates in special projects and events of the center, including outreach events
- Follows opening and closing procedures of the center and the library system
- Participates in meetings and trainings as appropriate
- Works evenings and weekends as scheduled, responding to the manager in charge
- Performs other duties as assigned
