Position Overview
We are looking for a dependable, motivated, plant-loving Assistant Store
Manager with an up-beat positive attitude to help lead daily store operations, support the team, and drive plant and product sales.
This hands-on leadership role supports the Store Manager with customer service,
team supervision and training, plant care, merchandising, inventory, ordering,
and daily garden center operations.
What You'll Do
Customer Service & Sales
- Provide top-tier customer service and assist customers with purchasing plants, plant-related goods, and other garden center products.
- Assist customers with plant-care questions and plant problem troubleshooting.
- Training will be provided as needed.
- Recommend appropriate plants and products based on customer needs and help drive sales through knowledgeable, thoughtful recommendations.
- Professionally address customer questions, concerns, and service issues.
Plant Care, Merchandising & Inventory
- Care for plant material, including watering, pruning, cleaning, repotting, and monitoring for health concerns.
- Maintain attractive, organized, clean, and shoppable merchandise displays.
- Unload, price, restock, organize, and set up incoming plant material and hard goods.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering plants, hard goods, and other products.
- Communicate inventory needs, shortages, customer requests, and sales opportunities to the Store Manager.
- Help minimize plant loss, product damage, and inventory shrink.
Store Operations & Leadership
- Support daily garden center operations and maintain an organized, productive environment.
- Lead and motivate team members when the Store Manager is unavailable.
- Set daily priorities and ensure tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Assist with opening, closing, upkeep, and procedures.
- Identify and address issues or communicate needs proactively.
- Maintain standards for cleanliness, organization, safety, and presentation.
Marketing Support
- Work directly with the Marketing Director to assist with operational and administrative marketing tasks
- Help organize marketing budgets and internal documentation
Team Training Development
- Customer Service & Sales: Strong service and sales skills with the ability to identify needs and recommend products.
- Assist employees in developing plant identification and troubleshooting knowledge.
- Provide clear direction, coaching, and constructive feedback.
- Lead by example and help maintain a knowledgeable, productive, and accountable team environment.
Knowledge & Skills
- Help train employees on plant care, products, sales, customer service, merchandising, and store procedures.
- Leadership Experience: Experience leading, supervising, training, or directing team members.
- Plant Care & Identification: Plant knowledge preferred; ability to learn identification, care, common problems, pests, and troubleshooting required.
- Strong communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Dependable, punctual, self motivated, and comfortable taking initiative, working both independently and collaboratively.
- Able to multitask and stay professional in a busy retail setting.
Physical Requirements
This active garden center role requires extended standing and walking; bending,
reaching, squatting, lifting; safe ladder or stepstool use; and moving plants, soil,
pottery, merchandise, and displays indoors or in varying garden center conditions.
