Position Title: Quality Control Line Inspector Department: Quality Control Reports To: QC Supervisor / QC Manager / Director of Quality Control
Position Summary
The Quality Control (QC) Line Inspector is responsible for performing in-process inspections on manufacturing and packaging lines to ensure that cosmetic and OTC drug products are produced in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), internal quality standards, and regulatory requirements, including 21 CFR Parts 210 and 211.
Key Responsibilities
In-Process Line Inspection
- Perform routine inspections of filling, labeling, and packaging lines
- Verify line clearance prior to start-up
- Inspect fill levels, container integrity, labeling accuracy, and coding
- Identify and report defects such as leaks, mislabels, or contamination
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to cGMP (21 CFR 210/211) and SOPs
- Complete inspection logs, batch records, and deviation reports
- Escalate non-conformances and support investigations
Line Clearance & Setup Verification
- Conduct line clearance during changeovers
- Verify correct components (labels, cartons, containers)
- Confirm reconciliation of materials
Sampling & Testing
- Collect in-process samples per sampling plans
- Perform visual and basic inspection checks
- Submit samples to QC lab when required
Batch Record Support
- Ensure documentation meets GDP (ALCOA+) standards
- Identify discrepancies during production
Collaboration
- Work cross-functionally with Production, QA, and Warehouse
- Support audits (internal, customer, FDA)
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree preferred
Experience
- 1–3 years in cosmetic or OTC manufacturing
- Experience in FDA-regulated environments preferred
Technical Knowledge
- Familiarity with 21 CFR Parts 210 & 211
- Understanding of cGMP and documentation practices
Skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Effective communication and escalation
- Basic math and inspection skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
- Visual inspection capability
- Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs
Work Environment
- Manufacturing floor with PPE requirements
- May require shift work, weekends, or overtime
