Work Schedule
This position supports emergency weather shelter operations and requires overnight availability.
Typical Schedule:

7:00 PM – 8:00 AM

Hours are scheduled when Orange Flag (extreme heat) or White Flag (extreme cold) operations are activated.
Because these initiatives are activated based on weather conditions, flexibility and reliability are essential.

About the Role
Support Staff members assist with the operation of Greensboro's emergency weather sheltering initiatives during periods of extreme heat and extreme cold.
Working alongside Community Safety personnel and community partners, you'll help ensure shelter operations run safely and efficiently while providing compassionate support to individuals experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable residents seeking refuge during dangerous weather conditions.
Key responsibilities include:

Support overnight operations during Orange Flag and White Flag activations.

Assist with shelter setup, operations, and closing procedures.

Welcome and assist shelter guests with professionalism, dignity, and respect.

Help connect individuals with available community resources and support services.

Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming shelter environment.

Collaborate with Community Safety staff and partner agencies.

Assist with basic operational tasks as assigned to support emergency shelter services.

Complete required documentation and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
