Job Summary
The Communications Specialist will be responsible for producing high-quality visual and digital content that reflects the voice, values, and vitality of Alianza Coachella Valley and the communities we serve. This role spans photography, videography, graphic design, social media management, and website content, requiring both creative vision and strong technical execution.
This is a hands-on, collaborative position that works closely with program staff, organizers, and leadership to capture and communicate the impact of our work.
Please note: This job will start as part-time, with the potential to become a full-time position in the future.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Photography & Videography
- Plan, shoot, edit, and deliver professional photos and videos for events, campaigns, programs, and storytelling projects
- Capture candid and portrait photography at community events, meetings, and organizational milestones
- Produce short- and long-form video content including reels, testimonials, documentary-style clips, and livestreams
- Manage photo and video archives, ensuring content is organized, accessible, and properly catalogued
- Operate and maintain camera equipment, lighting, audio gear, and editing software
Social Media Management
- Develop and execute social media strategies across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube
- Create, schedule, and publish engaging posts, stories, and reels that drive awareness and community engagement
- Monitor analytics and provide regular reports on content performance, reach, and audience growth
- Engage authentically with followers, respond to comments and messages, and foster online community
- Stay current with social media trends, platform algorithm changes, and best practices in nonprofit digital communications
Graphic Design & Visual Branding
- Design graphics, flyers, infographics, banners, and other visual assets for digital and print use
- Maintain visual consistency with Alianza Coachella Valley's brand identity and style guidelines
- Collaborate with staff to create materials for advocacy campaigns, fundraising, and community outreach
Website & Digital Content
- Update and maintain website content including news, events, program pages, and media galleries
- Optimize digital content for SEO, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness
- Support email newsletter production and digital campaign coordination
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of professional experience in digital media, communications, or a related field
- Proficiency in photography and videography, including camera operation, lighting, composition, and post-production editing
- Experience managing social media accounts for an organization, brand, or public figure
- Strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator) or equivalent editing tools
- Excellent written communication skills in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Genuine commitment to social justice, racial equity, and community empowerment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with nonprofits, advocacy organizations, or community-based organizations
- Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems
- Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact)
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and Google Analytics
- Ties to the Coachella Valley community
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Physical Requirements:
- Capable of sitting for long periods during office work and meetings.
- Agility to assist with logistical tasks during community events.
- Occasional lifting and moving of equipment or campaign materials (up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid work environment with a combination of office-based and remote work.
- Potentially unsafe field office space due to location, requiring flexibility and awareness.
- Involves attending community events and meetings, some of which may occur outside of regular business hours.
Travel Requirement:
- Ability to travel to events and meetings, as needed, with reliable transportation.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Interactions and Relationships:
- Regular interaction with internal teams, including communications, development, and policy departments.
- Communication methods vary based on the audience, including verbal communication, written follow-ups, presentations, and digital outreach.
- Frequent contact with external stakeholders such as community partners, coalition members, media representatives, and policymakers.
Performance Evaluation:
- Performance will be evaluated based on communications outcomes, stakeholder engagement, and achievement of strategic goals.
- Regular feedback sessions with direct supervisor and other leaders on the team.
