JOB SUMMARY
The Aviation Support Unit oversees and manages the Safety Management System, aircraft maintenance, quality assurance, datalink/special mission equipment, and asset management for a fleet of over 100 aircraft nationwide. ASU ensures the airworthiness and mission readiness of the entire fleet, upholding the highest standards of operational excellence and safety across all missions.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
In addition to the work performed at a desk, the duties regularly require extended periods of working, standing or bending while observing maintenance operations, witnessing test or examining material.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, such as when visiting maintenance hangars and shops.
MAJOR DUTIES
GS-12

Primary advisor to FBI aviation safety program manager, ensuring enterprise compliance with Safety Management System, federal regulations, and FBI policy.

Ensure quality assurance oversight regarding safety of airworthiness of aircraft, aircraft systems, aviation communications, and special mission equipment.

Track safety performance indicators to include, but not limited to safety meeting currency, inspections, training, safety reports, flight evaluations, and investigations.

Coordinate contract and vendor support to ensure quality oversight and compliance with FAA and FBI policy and regulations.

Conduct aviation safety data collection and trend analysis in support of program management, budget, and programmatic decisions and strategy.

Provide advance safety program support and oversight of data collection, analysis, and corrective actions as applicable.

Conduct safety program assessments, document results, and present findings to program managers and senior leaders.

Specialized Experience (SE)
GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

Experience with Aviation Safety Management System (SMS), implementation and compliance.

Gathering and compiling aviation safety data and analyzing to detect unsatisfactory trends or weaknesses in the quality/inspection systems, including sampling plans.

Assisting in aviation investigations such as complaints, occurrences, incidents, accidents and/or violations.
In addition to the above
GS-13: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

Experience with safety inspections and aviation accident/incident investigations.

Experience in safety data collection, analysis, and ability to identify performance indicators.
DESIRED SKILLS
