Coordinates activities within all functions of the Medical Staff Services office. Supports medical staff leadership and governance in all Medical Staff Services office functions according to the Bellin Bylaws of the Medical Staff. Implements and operationalizes requirements related to Medical Staff functions including the requirements of accrediting agencies; Det Norke Veritas (DNV), the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), the State of Wisconsin, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), as well as the continuing medical education (CME) accreditation standards.
Associate degree or bachelor’s degree with training in medical terminology, administrative support, and composition; computer knowledge in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS), Certification for Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM), or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) a plus.
Minimum of three years of experience in a health care environment preferred.
General Medical Staff Specialist Job Duties
- Maintains working knowledge and understanding of the Bellin Health Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and the National Committee for Quality Assurance Standards (NCQA) as demonstrated by observation.
- Facilitates communication and dissemination of pertinent information directed to the Medical Staff and Allied Health Professionals Staff.
- Promotes and supports improvement and efficiency initiatives.
Privileging and Payor Credentialing
- Processes appointment and reappointment applications for completeness and in accordance with Bellin Health Medical Staff policies and procedures.
- Coordinates the payor credentialing enrollment of Bellin Health and Bellin Health Partner practitioners, including initial credentialing and re-credentialing in order to be recognized as approved practitioners by the payors.
- Processes change requests for Bellin Health Medical and Allied Health Professionals Staff privileges, as well as changes in staff status.
- Monitors proctoring, annual competencies, and incorporates ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE) within the privileging process.
- Collects and maintains an accurate practitioner database and verification information as required by Bellin policy and accreditation and industry standards.
- Monitors database for expirations of required credentials, board certifications, licensure, DEA and professional liability insurance.
- Monitors state and federal sanctions reports.
- Participates in the development and implementation of credentialing processes and procedures.
- Participates in payor credentialing audits as requested by the payors.
Medical Staff Committee Support
- Prepares and sends meeting notices, agendas, transcribes minutes, and performs follow-up for those Medical Staff Departments assigned to Medical Staff Services.
- Promotes positive relations with physicians and other internal and external department customers by providing effective customer service.
- Provides age-appropriate care/service as applicable to role.
- Assures reliable, predictable outcomes and no needless waits.
- Uses Information Systems to their full capability.
- Duties as defined by specific department (if applicable).
- Attends regularly-scheduled and assigned shifts
