Mechanical Engineer – Charlotte, NC
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Charlotte, NC team. This position is ideal for a mechanical engineering professional with consulting experience who is looking to take on increasingly complex design projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and provide strong technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
The Mechanical Engineer will represent the firm in interactions with clients, contractors, architects, consultants, and other project team members. Responsibilities will include mechanical system design, equipment selection, engineering calculations, specifications, field investigations, construction administration, and quality control.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems for projects of varying size and complexity under the direction of senior engineers and designers.
- Conduct field inspections to document existing conditions and coordinate new work.
- Assist with due diligence, feasibility studies, gap analyses, technical reports, and drawings.
- Perform equipment selections, load and energy calculations, and pressure drop calculations.
- Develop mechanical system layouts, specifications, narratives, and operational parameters.
- Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, telecom, and other disciplines.
- Assist with project scheduling, staffing requirements, budgets, and construction cost estimates.
- Prepare Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates and evaluate construction feasibility.
- Assist with RFIs, Change Orders, Bulletins, and Addenda.
- Participate in and support QA/QC processes for assigned projects.
- Perform construction administration and field investigation activities, including detailed inspection reports.
- Maintain drawing organization and company standards.
- Work directly with clients, architects, owners, developers, contractors, vendors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Assist with managing CAD/BIM and other technical staff as assigned.
- Participate in professional and trade organizations and assist with technical presentations.
- Assist with employee reviews as requested.
- Prepare engineering proposals under the direction of senior engineering staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- 1.5–7+ years of experience working in a mechanical engineering consulting firm.
- EIT required; PE preferred.
- LEED AP accreditation highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems and their coordination with architectural, structural, electrical, and telecommunications systems.
- Understanding of constructability and project cost considerations.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
- Strong communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary design team.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project responsibilities.
