Fiber Horizontal Directional Driller
We are seeking an experienced Fiber Horizontal Directional Driller to support underground fiber-optic construction projects. This position will operate directional drills and other heavy equipment while assisting with crew leadership, job-site safety, utility locating, and quality control.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate horizontal directional drills, trenchers, plows, backhoes, loaders, and other underground construction equipment.
- Install underground fiber-optic cable, conduit, vaults, handholes, and pedestals.
- Read construction maps, staking sheets, utility markings, and project plans.
- Assist with utility locating and ensure locates are completed before construction begins.
- Support and guide construction crews to complete projects safely and efficiently.
- Perform quality-control inspections and help keep projects on schedule.
- Restore landscaping and job sites after construction is completed.
- Maintain accurate as-built records, maps, addresses, and project paperwork.
- Inspect, clean, service, and perform basic maintenance on construction equipment.
- Ensure trucks and trailers meet DOT requirements.
- Communicate with municipalities, utility companies, contractors, suppliers, and property owners.
- Travel or work overtime and varying shifts when required.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience operating underground or aerial construction equipment, including directional drills, trenchers, plows, rock saws, backhoes, or bucket trucks.
- Horizontal directional drilling experience.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet DOT requirements.
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL. Current CDL is preferred; training may be available.
- Ability to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.
- Ability to perform physical construction work, including lifting, pulling, digging, kneeling, and climbing.
- Strong commitment to job-site safety, quality, and attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience constructing fiber-optic outside plant networks.
- Experience installing underground or overhead utilities.
- Utility locating experience.
- Understanding of telecommunications construction practices.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour
