The Medina County Board of Commissioners is seeking a full-time Canine Care Technician for their Dog Shelter.
Canine Care Technician (CCT) is responsible for providing daily care to shelter dogs while maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy shelter environment. This position performs kennel cleaning and sanitation, feeding, enrichment activities, animal monitoring, customer service, and administrative support duties. The CCT plays a critical role in supporting canine welfare and promoting positive outcomes for them.
Essential Job Functions
Clean, disinfect, rinse, and sanitize kennels, cages, runs, dishes, enrichment items, and shelter equipment according to shelter protocols
Perform daily cleaning of animal housing areas, adoption rooms, laundry areas, offices, and public spaces
Remove waste and maintain clean, odor-controlled shelter environments
Stock/maintain cleaning supply inventory
Provide daily enrichment activities to support physical and emotional canine well-being
Walk dogs and facilitate exercise opportunities
Assist with playgroups, training exercises, and socialization activities
Prepare enrichment items such as puzzle feeders, scent activities, chew items, and toys
Document behavioral observations; communicate concerns and maintain accurate animal records
Complete daily cleaning, feeding, and enrichment documentation
Assist with filing, data entry, intake and adoption paperwork
Answer telephones, greet visitors, and provide general administrative support as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred
Experience working with animals is preferred but not required
Strong organizational and communication skills
Basic computer skills and ability to learn shelter software and other software systems
Work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings
