Experienced Medicaid Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Medicaid Specialist with a strong background in processing New York State Medicaid applications, renewals, eligibility issues, and long-term care Medicaid cases.
Prior hands-on New York Medicaid experience is required. Candidates without Medicaid application experience will not be considered.
The ideal candidate must be able to independently manage a caseload, review documentation, communicate with clients and government agencies, and follow each application through approval.
Responsibilities
- Complete and submit New York Medicaid applications accurately and promptly.
- Handle Community Medicaid, long-term care Medicaid, and home care-related Medicaid cases.
- Process Medicaid renewals and recertifications.
- Review financial, medical, residency, immigration, and identification documents.
- Identify missing documentation and follow up with clients, families, attorneys, trusts, and referral partners.
- Assist with Medicaid spend-down and pooled income trust cases.
- Track application status and follow up with HRA, DSS, and other government agencies.
- Respond to requests for additional information.
- Resolve inactive, denied, discontinued, or delayed Medicaid cases.
- Verify Medicaid eligibility and coverage.
- Maintain detailed case notes and update the case-management system.
- Communicate application status to clients and referral sources.
- Manage deadlines and maintain an organized caseload.
- Protect confidential client information and comply with HIPAA and company policies.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience processing New York Medicaid applications.
- Experience with Community Medicaid, Medicaid renewals, spend-down cases, and pooled income trusts.
- Knowledge of New York long-term care Medicaid eligibility requirements.
- Familiarity with NYC HRA, local DSS offices, ACCESS HRA, eMedNY, or related systems.
- Ability to independently complete and follow Medicaid applications from intake through approval.
- Strong understanding of required financial and supporting documentation.
- Excellent communication, organization, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to manage multiple active cases and meet strict deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, scanning, and electronic case-management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for a Medicaid application company, home care agency, elder law office, pooled trust, MLTC plan, or social-service organization.
- Knowledge of Medicaid home care programs, including MLTC, NHTD, and TBI waiver services.
