Mechanical Designer/Drafter – Semiconductor Process Piping
Job Overview
We are seeking a qualified, detail-oriented Mechanical Designer/Drafter to join our team in a full-time, on-site position in North Phoenix, Arizona.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience preparing process and mechanical piping drawings for semiconductor facilities, cleanrooms, advanced manufacturing facilities, or similar industrial environments.
This position requires a designer who can begin producing accurate piping layouts and construction documents with minimal training. The Mechanical Designer/Drafter will collaborate with engineers, project managers, field personnel, and multidisciplinary design teams to develop coordinated, constructible, and code-compliant piping drawings.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed process and mechanical piping drawings for semiconductor and cleanroom facilities.
- Develop process piping layouts, equipment layouts, mechanical plans, sections, elevations, details, and installation drawings.
- Create and update piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical schematics, and system drawings.
- Produce accurate 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, or similar design and coordination software.
- Coordinate piping systems with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and process disciplines.
- Identify and resolve piping conflicts, access issues, equipment clearances, and constructability concerns.
- Review existing site conditions, field information, markups, specifications, equipment documentation, and engineering drawings.
- Incorporate engineer and client comments into drawings while maintaining accurate revision records.
- Prepare coordinated drawing packages for design review, fabrication, construction, and installation.
- Follow project standards, client requirements, drawing conventions, and applicable industry codes.
- Participate in design coordination meetings and communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, clients, and field teams.
- Perform quality-control reviews to ensure drawings are accurate, complete, coordinated, and ready for issuance.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of experience preparing semiconductor process piping drawings.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit for mechanical or process piping design.
- Must be available to work full-time in an on-site position in North Phoenix, Arizona.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
- Experience preparing process piping layouts, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and construction documents.
- Understanding of piping systems, fittings, valves, supports, equipment connections, and installation requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, equipment information, and field markups.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate drawings with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on semiconductor facilities, cleanrooms, advanced manufacturing facilities, or high-purity process systems.
- Experience using Navisworks, Bluebeam, or other BIM and design coordination software.
- Knowledge of mechanical construction practices and field coordination.
- Experience supporting fabrication, installation, commissioning, or construction activities.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Drafting Technology, or a related field. Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
