Gurnick Academy is a leading private healthcare college offering an extensive variety of Nursing, Allied healthcare, and Imaging programs.
We are currently seeking a Hybrid/Remote General Education Support Specialist. This is primarily an online position, working with students and team members nationwide, with occasional site-based support provided in SE Oakland County, MI.

Work Days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, & Monday (5 hours/day)

Hourly Range: $17.00-$23.00
BASIC FUNCTION:
The General Education Support Specialist provides critical technical and customer service support to ensure a seamless learning experience for our students and faculty. This hybrid role balances behind-the-scenes data and systems administration—such as managing course links, updating spreadsheets, modifying platform settings per instructions, and resolving support tickets—with direct, empathetic student interaction. The ideal candidate will assist students via email, Google Meet, and occasional on-site, face-to-face interactions, helping them navigate their classes, access institutional email, and resolve login issues. This position requires a tech-savvy professional who is highly organized, deeply collaborative, able to follow instructions, and capable of making technology feel approachable for learners at all levels.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Navigate the education technology systems (learning management, student information, dashboard, etc.) to extract course information and organize them accurately within tracking spreadsheets or other applications.
- Follow instructions to perform routine data entry and adjust course settings, enrollment statuses, and user permissions according to established protocols and instructions.
- Utilize Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets) to manage files, document workflows, and maintain shared department records.
- Monitor, triage, and resolve incoming support requests within the internal ticketing system and department email queues.
- Guide students through initial technical onboarding, ensuring they can successfully log into institutional systems and access their student email and their courses.
- Provide clear, patient guidance to students via email and Google Meet to help them troubleshoot access barriers and comfortably navigate their online courses.
- Assist students in person at our site-based location, offering hands-on technical guidance to build their confidence with computer usage and online platforms.
- Escalate complex technical, technical-infrastructure, or academic compliance issues to the appropriate department or administrator when necessary.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required (Associate’s degree or relevant coursework preferred)
- Experience in customer service, administrative support, helpdesk environments, or an educational setting is highly valued.
- High comfort level learning and working with new software applications, web-based platforms, and hardware setups.
- Comfortable using Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, Gmail, and Google Meet for daily communication and task management.
- Prior experience with an LMS platform or a digital helpdesk ticketing system is a strong plus, though training on our specific systems will be provided.
