Operation Kindness Humane Society is seeking a Part time Kitten Nursery Technician to join our team! Operation Kindness is a pioneer in Texas for assisting animals in need of veterinary care, companionship and most of all, a home.
Sunday and Monday 7:30am-6:30pm

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Kitten Nursery Manager and Kitten Nursery Lead
Position Overview: The Part-Time Kitten Nursery Technician provides lifesaving neonatal feline medical care. Our new life-saving program for providing kittens care, will be an around-the-clock nursery for neonatal (newborn) kittens. Nursery Technicians provide excellent care for in-house patients in order to help us save kitten lives and find homes for these kittens when they are of age to be adopted. The nursery is a highly controlled environment in terms of policies, procedures, and processes. Neonatal kitten care is intensive and requires a high degree of attention to detail. This position is specialized medical care aimed at saving the most fragile lives.
Position Responsibilities:
Kitten Nursery
- Efficiently and safely bottle-feeding multiple litters of kittens, aged form 1 day to 6 weeks, adhering to established feeding and disease control protocols at all times.
- Follows strict sanitation procedures to prevent disease transmission between litters.
- Carrying out daily cleaning tasks to keep the nursery a sterile, contagion-free environment.
- Training nursery volunteers in feeding and sanitation procedures. Monitoring critical patients while maintaining feeding of nursery population at large.
- Administers medications and provides treatment, including care for critical patients. This may include assisting in physical examinations, administering injections, oral medications, fluid therapy, syringe feeding and enemas.
- Follows medical protocols outlined by Operation Kindness.
- Aids staff in working with Foster Coordinator to ready kittens from the Kitten Nursery for placement in Foster homes.
- Keeps animal records current, including intake paperwork, feeding charts and medical logs.
- Assists in managing inventory of all Kitten Nursery supplies, ensuring all necessary supplies are always stocked and available.
- Assists staff in working with veterinarians to determine proper treatment of sick or injured kittens in Kitten Nursery.

- Reports any unsafe working conditions to any manger or above immediately.
- Maintains client, donor, volunteer, and staff confidentiality at all times.
- Follows SOPS, and other safety regulations at all times.
- Completes all necessary and requested training in a timely manner in accordance with shelter policy.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Participates in shelter events as requested by supervisor.
- Performs other duties as requested or assigned.
Position Requirements:
Education Requirements:
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience Requirements:
- One year of experience working with cats in a medical capacity, either through employment or volunteer work.
- Familiarity with concepts of disease transmission and prevention.
- Experience handling neonatal patients, administering oral medications, monitoring temperature and vital signs, giving subcutaneous injections, and weighing kittens. (preferred)
- Euthanasia certification required, may be obtained within first 6 months

Compensation:
- Position is part-time and hourly, non-exempt.
- Compensation varies.
Physical Effort: Position requires lifting and carrying animals and shelter materials weighting up to 40 lbs.; when animals or materials weigh over 40 lbs., another staff member will assist in the lifting and carrying. Position also requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
