We are seeking an experienced Electrical Safety Test Engineer in our Carlsbad, California location.
Duties include but are not limited to:
· Read and understand national electrical codes and UL/CSA/IEC standards.
· Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
· Have a clear understanding of AC/DC circuits.
· Conduct thorough construction review of the product following standard requirements and document results.
· Perform testing of products in accordance with standards. Core tests include, but are not limited to: rating, leakage current, dielectric, and temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal and fault insurance, rain, radiation, sound, laser.
· Complete preliminary design/construction reviews both on and off site.
· Develop and set up test plans.
· Set-up and operate standard test equipment including, but not limited to: spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multi-meter, dielectric strength tester, ground continuity tester, digital multi-meter, surge generator, over-voltage tester, environmental condition chamber, and articulated probes.
· Compile test results during construction review and testing. Compile data and product description and type final report using established report shell.
· Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing. Provide on-going support to clients as needed.
· The ability to work within deadlines.
· An extensive knowledge of relevant regulations and the standards.
· Confident decision-making and the ability to explain ideas and plans clearly.
· Work according to the current guidelines and requirements for Quality Assurance.
· Contribute to any actions initiated to create a safe working environment.
· Use all laboratory equipment in a safe manner and in accordance with Nemko protocols.
· Senior Engineers with a segment specialty shall:
- Contribute/assess project engineers within the Nemko NGV scheme.
- Tutor and mentor project engineers.
- Contribute to seminars for knowledge sharing for Nemko and Nemko’s customers
EXPERIENCE
A MINIMUM OF 10-15 YEARS PRODUCT SAFETY TEST ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE (TIC OR MANUFACTURER) FOCUSED ON 62368, 60950, 61010, and/or 60601 SAFETY STANDARDS REQUIRED.
Minimum of 3 years directly related professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience with U.S., Canadian, and other International product safety standards, i.e., UL, CSA, EN, IEC is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete
variables.
- Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
EDUCATION
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in electrical engineering or equivalent plus directly related work history.
