Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Freelance/Desktop Support Engineer to deliver exceptional IT support and troubleshooting services to a diverse range of clients. As a self-employed contractor, you will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues across various operating systems and environments. Your expertise will ensure seamless computer performance, secure network connectivity, and efficient IT infrastructure management. This role offers the flexibility to work independently while providing vital support that keeps organizations running smoothly and securely.
Duties
- Provide comprehensive technical support for desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and peripherals across different operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Troubleshoot software issues related to Microsoft Office applications, operating systems, and custom enterprise software.
- Manage computer hardware setups, upgrades, repairs, and inventory tracking to optimize device performance.
- Configure and maintain network connectivity including LAN (Local Area Network), TCP/IP protocols, DNS settings, VPN connections, firewalls, and network security measures such as Active Directory and SCCM.
- Support IT infrastructure components such as Windows Server environments, Linux servers, DNS configurations, and network administration tasks.
- Assist users with help desk requests via ServiceNow or Jira platforms; document incidents thoroughly and follow up on resolutions.
- Monitor system health using tools like BMC Remedy or SCCM; perform analysis to identify recurring issues or potential vulnerabilities.
- Implement security protocols by managing firewalls, VPNs, and access controls; respond swiftly to security alerts or breaches.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their IT needs; provide clear communication and guidance on best practices for hardware/software usage.
Requirements
- Proven experience in technical support roles with strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and network systems.
- Familiarity with operating systems including Windows (Windows 10/11/Server), macOS, and Linux distributions.
- Knowledge of computer networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, LAN/WAN management, VPN setup, firewalls, and network security protocols.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office Suite and enterprise tools like SCCM, Active Directory, ServiceNow or Jira for incident management.
- Ability to manage computer hardware components; perform installations, upgrades, repairs efficiently.
- Strong analysis skills to diagnose issues quickly and implement effective solutions independently.
- Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
