Job Overview
Responsible for providing a therapeutic recreation program which meets the social and recreational needs of the residents and is in keeping with the philosophy and objectives of the Facility.
Responsibilities
- Plans, develops, organizes, implements, and evaluates the Therapeutic Recreation program assuring that it is in keeping with the philosophy and objects of the Facility.
- Responsible for correct charting of Therapeutic Recreation plans and assuring that the plans are carried out in compliance with State regulations.
- In conjucntion with the ID Team, participates in a written comprehensive care plan for each resident that identifies the needs, care to be given, measurable goals and the specific time frame.
- Responsible for the assessments of new admissions/re-admissions with resident, family, and other appropriate personnel.
- Supervise, schedules and coordinates the activities and functions of Department personnel. Provides orientation and in-service training of Department employees.
- Responsible to arrange the Resident Council meetings. Coordinates with Social Services the acknowledgements and/or follow through of the concerns and requests of the Council.
- Plans monthly calendar of facility events and distributes to appropriate areas.
- Gives final department approval for purchasing educational programs including departmental, staff in-services, conventions and seminars.
- Maintains personal appearance, dress and hygiene of Dept. appropriate to the job and the general function of the facility.
- Ensures that assigned work areas are maintained in an orderly, safe and sanitary manner.
- Prepares the annual operational budget and assures implementation once approved.
- Reviews and evaluates the work performance of assigned personnel. Conducts performance evaluations in accordance with the facility's policy and procedures.
- Ensures that department personnel are trained in all aspects of fire and safety and follows facility procedures in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Monitors absenteeism to ensure staffing requirements are adequate and the attendance policy standard is being met.
- Develops, maintains and updates policies and procedures in compliance with facility, state and federal regulations.
- Responsible to assure that the Resident's Bill of Rights is maintained at all times.
- Performs other duties as may be required.

- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family, visitors and general public.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other personnel.
- Knowledgeable of the safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment.
- Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop and implement programs, goals, policies and procedures.
- Must be knowledgeable in Therapeutic Recreation practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, policies and procedures governing the facility.
- Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with co-workers.
- Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them.
- Must have the patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
