Location: First Flight High School (FFHS)
Reports To: Principal
The Finance Officer at First Flight High School is responsible for managing the school’s financial operations with accuracy, transparency, and efficiency. This role ensures compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines while supporting the school’s mission of academic excellence and student success. The Finance Officer works closely with the principal, staff, and district finance department to oversee budgeting, purchasing, and financial reporting.
Financial Management

Maintain accurate records of all school financial transactions

Manage school accounts, including general funds, athletics, clubs, and special programs

Reconcile bank statements and financial reports on a regular basis

Monitor expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets
Budgeting & Reporting

Assist the principal in developing and managing the annual school budget

Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports
-
Track and report on grant funding and special allocations

Ensure timely submission of required financial documentation to the district
Purchasing & Accounts Payable

Process purchase orders, invoices, and reimbursements
-
Ensure all purchases follow district and state procurement policies

Maintain vendor relationships and records
-
Verify receipt of goods and services before payment
Compliance & Auditing

Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal financial regulations

Prepare documentation for audits and assist during audit processes

Maintain organized financial records for accountability and transparency
Student & Staff Activity Funds

Oversee financial activities of student organizations and athletics

Train staff on proper handling of school funds and procedures

Monitor fundraising activities to ensure compliance with policies
Customer Service & Communication

Provide support to staff regarding financial procedures and budgeting

Communicate clearly with district finance personnel and external vendors

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all financial matters
Education & Experience

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred

Experience in school finance, bookkeeping, or governmental accounting preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial systems

Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel

High level of organization and attention to detail

Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
