Role Description The Senior Demolition Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in the Washington DC–Baltimore Area. This role is responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for demolition and environmental remediation projects, including reviewing project plans, specifications, and site conditions. Day-to-day activities include quantity takeoffs, developing scope of work, soliciting and analyzing subcontractor and vendor quotes, and identifying risk factors and cost-saving opportunities. The Senior Demolition Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to refine estimates, support bid proposals, and ensure alignment with project schedules and safety requirements. The role also involves attending pre-bid meetings, maintaining pricing databases, and contributing to strategic bid decisions and client presentations.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of estimating experience specifically within the demolition, heavy civil, or environmental remediation industry.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on industry experience (minimum 15 years).
Technical Skills: Proficiency in industry-standard estimating and takeoff software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Agtek, or similar).
Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of demolition techniques (structural, selective, interior), heavy equipment capabilities, and scrap/salvage values.
Environmental Awareness: Working knowledge of hazardous materials often encountered in demolition (asbestos, lead, PCBs) and the associated abatement processes.
Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical and math skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight bidding deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Evaluation: Review blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.
- Site Inspections: Conduct thorough site visits and walk-throughs to assess site conditions, identify potential risks, and determine the most efficient demolition methods.
- Cost Estimation: Calculate complete and accurate estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead.
- Subcontractor Management: Solicit, review, and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors (including hazardous material abatement, hauling, and recycling partners).
- Bid Preparation: Prepare competitive bid packages and proposals, ensuring all deadlines and client requirements are met.
- Project Handover: Collaborate with the Operations and Project Management teams to ensure a seamless transition from the bidding phase to project execution.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior estimators and project engineers.
- Client Relationship: Maintain Positive Client First relationships with existing clients along with developing new client interest
