AfterCare Lead at Sussex School
Part-time
Hourly Rate-$27/hr–Start Date-August 26th, 2026

Sussex School is seeking a person who has experience working with young children to serve as the Aftercare Lead Teacher for the Sussex AfterCare program. The position currently has an opening for four days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The hours are 2:45pm–5:00pm Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and 1:45pm–5:00pm Thursday. In addition to these regular hours, this position will be required to work additional hours on the following dates: September 24th-5:00pm-7:00pm, November 12th-11:45am-5:00pm, May 6th-11:45am-5:00pm.
The AfterCare lead teacher is responsible for the supervision and care of up to 30 students as one of two teachers after school. This includes organizing activities and supervising outdoor play every day, communicating with parents, and helping to resolve student behavior challenges.
The AfterCare program offers students in grades K–5 a variety of fun activities that are based on the interests of our students and the specialty areas of our AfterCare staff. The program continues the multi-age community ethos of the Sussex school day with a balance of free play, including daily outdoor play, and more structured activities. It operates from the end of the school day until 5:15pm Monday through Friday when school is in session.
The Sussex AfterCare Program includes:
- A comfortable, safe, fun environment for students after school
- Supervised use of the gym, kitchen, all playground areas, and selected classrooms for activities, games, and reading
- An emphasis on outdoor play and activities in all weather
- An opportunity for students to interact, play, and develop relationships across age groups.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively using strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to manage and guide student behavior
- Knowledge of Google Suite apps: Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Sites, Pages, Classroom, and Forms
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
- Ability to walk up a flight of stairs
- Ability to collaborate and work in a team
- Must pass a background check
