The Indiana University Jewish Culture Center is a vibrant hub dedicated to enriching Jewish student life and educating the broader campus community about Jewish culture, tradition, and identity. Established in partnership with the Office of Student Life and located in the IU Hillel building, the center serves as both a cultural resource and a welcoming community space for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Its mission is to ensure Jewish students have opportunities to develop leadership potential, connect meaningfully with Judaism, and engage in academic, cultural, social, and community-based experiences.
Job Summary

Serves as the primary greeter at the front desk, welcoming students and visitors in a friendly, professional manner.

Monitors and manages front desk operations, including answering the door and maintaining a welcoming environment.

Facilitates student check-in processes and maintain accurate sign-in records.

Responds to general inquiries and provide basic information about the Jewish Culture Center and Hillel programs.

Provides administrative support, including light clerical tasks and general office assistance as needed.

Assists with event and program logistics, including set-up and break-down of materials and spaces.
-
Delivers high-quality customer service and contribute to a positive experience for all visitors.

Assists with additional tasks or special projects as assigned.

Supports kitchen-related tasks during programs or events.
-
Cooks and assembles menu items following established standards.

Washes dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment; maintain proper sanitation practices.

Assists cooks and other kitchen staff during meal service as needed.

Ensuring the kitchen is stocked with necessary supplies and cooking equipment, promptly notify supervisors of low inventory or equipment issues.

Maintains a clean and functional kitchen by cleaning equipment, appliances, and work areas, removing trash, and sanitizing garbage containers.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required

Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred

Customer Service experience

Prior experience in an office setting

Food service or teamwork experience
SKILLS
Required

Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software especially Word, Outlook and Excel

Comfortable interacting with a variety of people in professional or campus settings

Professionalism, dependability, and respect for others

Experience working independently on tasks

Situational awareness

Knowledge of preparation methods and practices for a variety of foods, and knowledge of basic kitchen sanitation methods and food safety practices
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This is an in-person position.
Work Hours
Monday - Thursday, 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Friday, 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm
16 hours per week with additional hours available based on availability and department needs
No more than 29 hours per week across all IU jobs.
