Maintenance & Engineering Manager
Location: Newark, NJ
Salary Range: $100,000 – $120,000
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Maintenance & Engineering Manager to lead all activities within the Facilities Department, including Maintenance and Utilities. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations while supporting production goals, quality standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, technical expertise in food manufacturing environments, and a hands-on approach to driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Facilities Department to support:
- Facility safety and compliance
- Production capacity and growth initiatives
- Quality assurance standards
- Process equipment and utility maintenance
- Efficiency improvements in utilities and production systems
- Refrigeration system operations
- Continuous improvement of plant processes
- Develop and implement strategies to improve plant efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimize utility usage through predictive and preventive maintenance programs.
- Ensure all new equipment and utility installations comply with USDA regulations and align with plant strategic goals.
- Support development and management of capital and operational budgets.
- Supervise, train, and develop maintenance team members to ensure high performance and compliance with company standards.
- Ensure adherence to HACCP, SQF, GMP, SOP, OSHA, EPA, USDA, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Manage contractor relationships and ensure best value for materials, labor, and services.
- Support plant leadership in engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of maintenance or utility management experience
- Experience in food manufacturing (meat industry preferred)
- Strong knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance systems
- Experience managing contractors and maintenance teams
- Proven project management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical information
- Strong communication skills across all levels of management
- Experience with vacuum packing systems preferred
- High Pressure Boiler experience required
- NJ Black Seal Boiler License (required or willingness to obtain)
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
