Job Summary
Animal Ortho Care LLC is seeking a hands-on fabrication technician to build custom orthopedic braces that help dogs regain mobility and improve quality of life. This position offers the opportunity to help establish and grow AOC's internal custom brace fabrication capabilities as we expand our manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for fabricating custom canine orthotic devices from casts, measurements, and design specifications. Every patient is unique, requiring attention to detail, craftsmanship, and a commitment to quality.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate custom orthopedic braces and support devices for canine patients. This is typically done via mailed-in casting kits; on-site castings and fittings on dog patients isperformed occasionally.
- Prepare casts for fabrication. Cast preparation includes filling, breakouts and modifications.
- Determine and apply hinge and strap placement on braces using measurement tools.
- Pull plastic and vacuum form the plastic over the brace mold.
- Trim, grind, shape, assemble, and finish orthotic components. Grinding and smoothing edge work, molding, shaping and forming foam is required.
- Install straps, padding, hinges, and other hardware.
- Perform quality inspections prior to shipment, including accuracy for fit, operation, durability and cosmetic appearance. Test devices for freedom of movement, alignment of parts and stability.
- Collaborate with customer service to ensure successful outcomes, troubleshoot fitment issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain fabrication equipment, tools, and work areas. Utilize appropriate PPE and follow safe work practices.
- Oversee material management for custom brace components and collaborate with purchasing to ensure adequate material supply.
- Assist with process improvements and documentation of fabrication procedures
- Accomplishes organizational mission by completing related tasks and other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in orthotic and prosthetic fabrication. O&P Technician certification or related experience preferred.
- Experience as a Pediatric Cranial Orthotist is a plus
- Experience working with hand tools, grinders, sanders, heat guns, vacuum systems, and fabrication equipment preferred. We are willing to train the right candidate with strong mechanical aptitude and fabrication skills.
- Comfortable occasionally interacting with dogs during castings and brace fittings.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

Pay Range: $25-$30/hr
