General Description:
The Human Resources Generalist will support The Martin De Porres School for Exceptional Children by adhering to our mission (To educate children experiencing emotional and behavioral problems) our vision (Through education, every child entrusted to our care will have the opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential) and our core value of respect, integrity, leadership and service.
The Human Resources Generalist provides comprehensive operational and administrative support to the HR Director and the agency’s educational, residential, and business office sites regarding personnel. This role is responsible for executing HR processes, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring timely communication across the organization. The Generalist is entrusted with highly confidential information and must exercise absolute discretion and professionalism in all matters.
Education & Qualifications
- BA/BS Degree in Human Resources or a related field.
- PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.
- Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Employee Benefits & Leave Administration
- Administer benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations.
- Perform monthly health insurance billing reconciliation to ensure accuracy between carrier invoices and payroll deductions.
- Prepare and track documentation for Disability, PFL, and FMLA.
- Coordinate with insurance carriers to report workplace incidents and ensure the timely completion and filing of all required C-Forms.
- Maintain employee time-off records and resolve any discrepancies or inquiries regarding leave balances.
Talent Acquisition & Employee Relations
- Manage job postings, coordinate onboarding, and facilitate orientation for new hires.
- Manage comprehensive pre-employment background checks and clearances, including NYC Department of Education (DOE) fingerprinting, State Central Registry (SCR) inquiries, and Staff Exclusion List (SEL) verifications.
- Serve as a point of contact for staff regarding HR policies and procedures.
- Assist management with employee complaint resolution and internal investigations.
Leadership Support
- Provide administrative assistance to the HR Director (scheduling, correspondence, and workflow management).
- Act as a backup to the Human Resources Director on essential matters as needed.
- Complete HR-related special projects and other duties to support the agency's mission.
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills.
- Solid negotiation skills and the ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
- Organization: Strong planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities within a multi-site agency.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Sheets Management and email communication.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive information with the highest level of security and confidentiality.
