Responsibilities
- Review and interpret medical records to assign appropriate codes using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding systems.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims accurately through Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Preferrable Athena but not a requirement.
- Ensure compliance with DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications and other billing guidelines.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies.
- Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities, medical records, and correspondence with insurance companies.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures when necessary for accurate billing.
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations to ensure compliance.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or related healthcare administrative roles.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for billing and record-keeping.
- Proficiency in CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, DRG classifications, and medical coding best practices.
- Ability to interpret complex medical information accurately and efficiently.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to minimize errors in billing processes.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients.
