The ideal candidate will be experienced in structural and production welding, capable of reading drawings, maintaining dimensional accuracy, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our manufactured/assembled products.
Responsibilities:
- Perform MIG, FCAW, SMAW, and TIG welding
- Fabricate and assemble steel components and manufactured products according to drawings and specifications
- Weld carbon steel, alloy steel, and other materials as required
- Preparing materials through grinding, beveling, cutting, fitting, and cleaning
- Operate welding machines, torches, grinders, and other fabrication tools
- Perform tack welding, fit-up, and final welding of assemblies
- Ensure weld quality meets company, customer, and applicable industry standards
- Maintain proper weld appearance, penetration, and dimensional tolerances
- Read and interpret;
- Shop drawings
- Welding symbols
- Engineering specifications
- Work instructions
- Verify dimensions using measuring tools including tape measures, squares, calipers, levels, and gauges
- Identify discrepancies or drawing issue and report them to supervision
- Conduct visual inspections of completed welds and assemblies
- Ensure assemblies meet dimensional and quality requirements before release
- Complete required inspection and production documentation
- Maintain traceability requirements where applicable
- Maintain welding machines and shop equipment in safe working condition
- Conduct routine shop and equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
- Safely move materials using jib cranes, forklifts, carts, or lifting devices
- Maintain organized workstations and follow housekeeping standards
- Properly identify and segregate materials
- Assist with loading, unloading, and positioning fabricated materials and assemblies
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices
- Wear required PPE including welding helmets, respirators, gloves, hearing protection, and protective clothing
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training programs
- Maintain awareness of work hazards and line of fire risks
- Report incidents, near misses, and hazards promptly
- Travel and overtime may be required based on operational and production needs
Qualifications:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Welding certification is required
Experience
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial, structural steel, rail, heavy equipment, or custom fabrication environments is considered an asset
- 2+ years of welding or fabrication experience is preferred
- AWS certification is required
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in MIG/FCAW welding is required
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and weld symbols
- Understanding of welding distortion control and fit-up techniques
Preferred Assets:
- Forklift certification
- Jib crane experience
- Experience with rail products, heavy steel fabrication, or plate work
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs regularly
- Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, and industrial environments
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and grinding work
- Ability to safely wear respiratory and welding PPE
