Position Summary: Responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the company’s food safety and quality programs. Key role in ensuring compliance with facility, product, and regulatory food safety and quality requirements. The Quality Assurance Manager is expected to take a proactive approach to identifying and preventing food safety and quality issues. Assist in preparation and help lead interactions with food safety regulatory agencies, consumer group certification audits and third-party inspections/audits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director of Food Safety and Quality in the development, implementation and maintenance of Food Safety Plans, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and Quality programs for food storage and manufacturing facility.
- Responsible for knowledge of and adherence to FDA, Safe Quality Food (SQF) and other regulatory compliance standards. Must hold Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) and SQF Practitioner certifications.
- Administer and maintain food certification compliance with programs including Organic, Kosher, Gluten Free, Vegan, Non-GMO etc.
- Supports the Director of QA in preparing for food safety, client, and third-party certification audits.
- Collaborate with the Purchasing department to develop and manage the Approved Supplier Program.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams, including internal operation teams, suppliers and clients.
- Prepare, analyze and present regular reports to management, customers, and suppliers regarding product quality performance, trends and recommended corrective actions.
- Mentor, coach, and train new employees with respect to GMP’s, food safety and quality, as needed.
- Serve as back up to the Director of Food Safety and Quality to ensure compliance with SQF requirements, customer specifications, consumer certifications and government regulations (USDA, FDA, OSHA, State, County).
- Expected to work the required hours needed to execute the duties and responsibilities of the position and set an exemplary example for all the employees.
- Responsible for managing QA Department staff, including hiring, terminations, performance reviews and development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Degree in Food Science and/or related discipline or 5-10 years of Food Manufacturing experience.
- Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and participating in third party audits.
- Experience in developing and implementing food safety plans, policies and procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across departments to resolve issues.
- Excellent written, oral communication skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to interact in a positive and collaborative way with all personnel within the organization and clients.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with Power BI is a plus.
- Ability to quickly learn and navigate inventory ERP systems.
- Possesses a passion for food safety and ability to consistently research and obtain new food safety knowledge through outside resources.
