The Unit Manager plays an integral role in the success of our team and our community and creating a place our residents are proud to call home. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the nursing processes and to coordinate with the DON daily on unit needs. Such duties must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility and as may be required by the supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, and direct nursing services for residents on the unit assigned.
- Ensure compliance with current applicable federal, state and local regulations and facility policies and procedures.
- Report complaints and grievances to the Director of Nursing or Executive Director.
- Ensure an adequate stock of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc., is always maintained on the unit to adequately meet the needs of the resident and notify appropriate personnel of needs.
- Assist in the development of written preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident.
- Coordinate nursing/aide assignments as indicated.
- Coordinate admissions for arrival timing and ensuring rooms are supplied with necessary equipment.
- Collaborate with nursing team to complete the admission process on daily scheduled admissions.
- Coordinate with nursing and social services on discharge planning, home health services, etc.
- Assure provider orders are processed in a timely manner.
- Meet and work to resolve issues with residents and/or family members. Report significant issues to the DON and ED.
- Wound and skin care management.
- Assure family and providers that updates are completed and documented.
- Assist in arranging transportation and appointments for residents and other third-party services.
- Provide Medication administration and treatments to residents as needed.
- Participate in on-call nurse manager rotation.
- Participate in Interdisciplinary Team meetings as needed.
- Communicate with health care provider to review resident care concerns, complete orders, clinical notes, etc., in accordance with established policies.
- Transcribe orders from health care provider report and process to appropriate department.
- Complete reports on all accidents involving residents and submit them to the Director as necessary.
- Complete and file assessments and all other medical record documentation as required to provide care services.
- Report all discrepancies noted concerning physician orders, diet change, charting errors, etc. to DON.
- Ensure that pertinent clinical documentation is completed according to policy.
- Enter and track infections in designated infection control programs.
- Complete an initial interim care plan. Participate with the Interdisciplinary Team in updating and reviewing care plans that identify the goals, problems, approaches, and revisions based on nursing needs.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Deal tactfully with personnel, prospects, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
- Capable of working with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within the facility.
- Communicate effectively in a manner that is sufficient for supervisors, team members, prospects, residents, and families.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Education and Experience
- Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for this position.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
- Maintain an active Registered Nurse (RN) license, in applicable state, in good standing throughout employment with no disciplinary action in effect against professional license.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience providing direct care in long-term care, restorative or geriatric settings as an RN.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have any direct reports or supervisory requirements.
