About the role:
The Building Engineer is responsible for supporting the maintenance, repair, and operation of building systems, equipment, and utilities to ensure a safe and efficient working environment. This role works under the direction of Facilities and Engineering leadership to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, support facility improvement initiatives, and promote compliance with safety standards and operational procedures.
In this role you will:
- Complete work orders and assigned maintenance tasks as directed by the Facility Manager, including the repair, maintenance, and installation of machinery, tools, and equipment
- Complete and document required training to become an active member of the engineering team, including demonstrating knowledge of emergency panels, generator operations, chiller logs, and work order systems
- Participate in all engineering department safety meetings and activities
- Support the operation and maintenance of utility systems to ensure a continuous supply of heating, air conditioning, and utility services
- Assist with the development and execution of preventive maintenance programs
- Review maintenance, operational, and quality reports to support maintenance planning and continuous improvement efforts
- Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of methods and procedures designed to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs
- Requisition tools, equipment, and supplies necessary for facility operations and conduct periodic inventory activities in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Assist with training and onboarding team members on work practices, company policies, procedures, and safety regulations, including OSHA requirements
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to resolve maintenance issues and recommend improvements to equipment performance and operational efficiency
- Support the preparation and management of departmental budgets
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards
What makes you an ideal candidate?
- Working knowledge of computers and various software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and energy management systems
- Desire and ability to learn complex commercial maintenance procedures
- Ability and willingness to obtain Refrigerant Handling Certification
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, manuals, and governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, vendors, clients, and customers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to interpret a variety of written, verbal, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions
- Ability to work independently after training is completed
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects effectively

Additional Knowledge and Skills
Work Environment
- Frequent work near moving mechanical equipment and machinery
- Must be able to move throughout the facility, including climbing ladders and stairwells
- May occasionally be exposed to machine noise and inclement weather conditions
- Occasional work in elevated or precarious locations
- May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and electrical hazards
Noise levels may range from moderate to loud depending on work location and equipment in operation

Work Experience & Education
- Prior building maintenance, facilities maintenance, engineering support, or related technical experience preferred
High School Diploma or equivalent required
