TITLE: Safety Technician
LOCATION: Support Services Center; job duties require travel BOCES wide.
REPORTS: Coordinator of Health and Safety
TERMS: Full-time, 12 months
QUALIFICATIONS: Competitive Civil Service position. Candidates must meet the minimum Civil Service qualifications
and successfully complete the exam. Proven experience as:
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS Registered College with an Associate’s
degree in Health Science, Earth Science, Emergency Management, Chemistry,
Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field, OR
B. Two (2) years of paid full time or its part-time equivalent experience in occupational safety
& health programming, emergency management, engineering, industrial hygiene or
related experience, OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and
(B).
- Appropriate valid NY State driver’s license is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES /
DUTIES:
Assists the Health & Safety Coordinator in the implementation of health, safety, and risk
management programs in schools. This includes:
- Implementing changes and programs to document with health and safety laws and
regulations and emergency planning procedures;
- Conducting workshops, drills and other similar activities;
- Performing inspections of buildings, fire extinguishers, and other safety and risk
management components;
- Providing and/or coordinating training and information programs in conjunction with
emergency response agencies for school personnel, parents and community groups;
- Documenting compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to health, safety and
emergency planning.
SALARY/BENEFITS: $17.50/Hour, plus experience. Includes generous health, dental, and state retirement benefits as
well as generous paid leave time based on the BOCES Employee Support Personnel Association
(BESPA) contract.
