Life Skills Program Instructor & Tutoring Program Assistant
Part-Time (10–20 Hours Per Week)
Position Summary
The Life Skills Program Instructor & Tutoring Program Assistant plays an important role in supporting NEST of Mobile's mission to equip at-risk youth with the skills, knowledge, and support needed to succeed. This position serves as an instructor for the NEST Life Skills Certification Program in juvenile justice and educational settings while also assisting with the coordination and facilitation of the NEST Tutoring Program.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Life Skills Program Coordinator to deliver engaging lessons, build community partnerships, and provide academic support to youth participating in NEST programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, or related field
- Experience working with youth, preferably in educational, nonprofit, or juvenile justice settings
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, volunteers, and community partners
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic data entry
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Responsibilities
Life Skills Program
- Assist in teaching Life Skills Certification Program classes focused on: Mental Health Awareness, Anger Management, Communication Skills, Healthy Behaviors and Hygiene, Financial Literacy, and Career and Life Readiness
- Collaborate with the Life Skills Program Coordinator to develop lesson plans and program activities
- Facilitate group discussions, role-playing activities, and interactive learning experiences
- Maintain attendance records and assist with program evaluations
- Build relationships with staff at juvenile justice and educational partner sites
- Represent NEST professionally in community and school settings
Program Locations (locations and scheduling are subject to change)
- Conduct Life Skills classes twice monthly at the James T. Strickland Youth Center
- Conduct Life Skills classes twice monthly at ACCEL Academy
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating program activities at partner locations
Tutoring Program
- Assist with weekly tutoring sessions at the NEST of Mobile office
- Provide direct academic support to youth in areas such as reading, math, homework completion, and study skills
- Support the supervision and coordination of college student tutors participating in the Spring Hill College Foley Center grant program.
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and encouraging learning environment
- Track student participation and communicate progress to the Life Skills Program Coordinator
Other Administrative Duties
· Assist with special events upon request
· Assist with the NEST of Mobile Annual Luncheon
· Assist with office administrative duties upon request
Schedule
- 10–20 hours per week
- Flexible schedule with daytime availability required for Life Skills classes
- One afternoon per week dedicated to tutoring services
- Occasional evening or special event participation may be required
Compensation
- Part-time, 10–20 hours per week
- Hourly rate: $15–$22 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
