American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position at a Level II Trauma acute care facility in Bismarck, ND, requiring PCU experience and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips.

Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma Center

32-bed Med/Tele/PCU unit functioning primarily as a telemetry and cardiac unit with PCU overflow
-
Adult and geriatric patient population including cardiac cath, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH, COVID/BiPAP, general surgical with cardiac history, pneumonia, sepsis, influenza, and acute-on-chronic conditions

Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5 (occasional 1:5–6 on nights); PCU-level overflow care at 1:3

RNs are required to read and interpret their own cardiac strips; telemetry monitors are available at bedside and at the nurses' station

RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine

RT equipment in use includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo; RNs are responsible for troubleshooting

EMR: Epic (preferred, not required)

12-hour shifts; day shift (7a–7p) and night shift (7p–7a) available

Every other weekend required

Every other holiday required

First to float: floating includes all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, MS for full patient assignment, and some ER holds/boarding

No on-call or standby requirement

Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license, must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

PCU experience required
-
Telemetry/cardiac RN background required, including ability to read and interpret cardiac strips

Driver's license required for consideration

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked — must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Candidates may not currently be employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any facility associated with CommonSpirit Health, including CHI and/or Dignity Health
-
Orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week), with independent practice beginning that Sunday
-
Charge nurses are present on all shifts and may occasionally carry a light patient load of 2–3 patients
-
Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit with a goal ratio of 1:10

Any color scrubs are permitted
-
RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
