Job Summary:
The Grounds Specialist is primarily responsible for daily campus upkeep and event operations by delivering excellent guest service, performing year-round grounds and facility maintenance, and assisting with event setups and breakdowns.
Responsibilities include landscaping, trash and debris removal, seasonal lawn and snow care, pressure washing, and supporting campus and parking lot maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. This position reports to the Senior Director of Operations.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
- Provide superior guest service to visitors, guests, clients, vendors, and staff.
- Assist with field conversions for events such as graduations, concerts, enshrinement week, festivals, sporting events, and more.
- Assist with set up and breakdown before and after events throughout campus, not just the stadium.
- Assist contracted services with routine grounds maintenance, including weed control and trash removal from landscaped beds, cracks, and hard-to-reach areas.
- Collect and dispose of debris to maintain a clean and safe campus environment.
- Prune and trim shrubs and trees across campus, following direction and established standards.
- Perform mulching and raking of landscaped beds to enhance appearance and plant health.
- Support general landscaping activities as assigned to ensure overall campus upkeep
- throughout both green and white seasons to maintain a campus looking fresh and free of trash and debris.
Green Season (March – October):
- Operate lawn maintenance equipment including commercial mowers, backpack blowers, and edgers.
- Mow and maintain grassed areas within campus limits.
- Trim and edge all sidewalks, and around landscaped bed edges, tree rings, buildings, and structures.
- Backpack blow all debris from sidewalks, landscaped beds, and around buildings and structures following mowing and edging.
- Pressure wash sidewalks, retail space entry ways, Play Action Plaza, Tom Benson Stadium seating bowl and concourses, and ForeverLawn Sports Complex.
- Maintain parking lots and roadways to ensure a safe, clean, and well-organized environment.
- Paint and refresh parking lot striping, parking spaces, and street directional arrows as needed.
- Keep parking areas free of trash, debris, and hazards through regular inspection and cleanup.
- Install, repair, and replace parking and roadway signs to ensure proper traffic flow and compliance with campus standards.
- Assist with upkeep of artificial turf fields to ensure safe and high-quality playing conditions.
- Perform routine grooming to maintain turf appearance and performance.
- Remove trash, debris, and other materials from turf areas to keep fields clean and hazard-free.
- Painting for sporting events (soccer, football, lacrosse, etc.).
White Season (November – March):
- Keep sidewalks and smaller parking lots free of snow and ice through use of snow blowers and stand-on and UTV plows, shovels, ice scrapers, and salt spreaders.
- All other duties as assigned.
PART-TIME/HOURLY/NON-EXEMPT
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Desired Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A valid drivers license with a motor vehicle record in compliance with company standards.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Ability to spend most of the day outside and on your feet in extreme weather conditions.
- Knowledge of and experience working with basic hand and power tools as well as heavy lawn maintenance machinery is a must.
- Must be able to conduct oneself in a professional manner both in personal appearance and behavior.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (nights, weekends & holidays as necessary) is required.
- Must be a flexible and reliable team player, both within own department and entire organization.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of performance, working quickly without compromising quality.
- Must have the ability to demonstrate uncompromised judgment and discretion regarding confidential matters while maintaining confidentiality.
- Proven ability in Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements for Position:
- The ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- The ability to work in various Ohio weather conditions, inside and outside.
- The ability to move safely over uneven terrain, steps, or in construction zones.
- The ability to see and respond to hazardous situations.
- The ability to sit, stand, squat, bend, stop, twist, walk, and complete repetitive hand and write motions for periods of time as required for the position.
- Must be able to hear, see, and speak.
- Ability to comprehend instructions and retain information.
- Must have manual dexterity necessary to complete all job duties.
- Must be available to work in Canton, Ohio.
