Job Overview
The Clinical Supervisor provides clinical oversight, supervision, and leadership to Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHPs), counselors, and direct service staff delivering Mental Health Skill Building and Intensive In-Home services. The supervisor ensures services are clinically appropriate, compliant with state regulations, Medicaid requirements, and agency policies while promoting high-quality, person-centered care to individuals and families. The Clinical Supervisor supports staff development, monitors treatment effectiveness, and ensures ethical and evidence-based service delivery to improve client functioning, stability, and community integration.
Responsibilities
- Complete assessments and submit authorization requests to MCO.
- Provide weekly individual and/or group clinical supervision to QMHPs and counseling staff.
- Review and cosign clinical documentation for quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Support staff with treatment planning, crisis intervention, and case conceptualization.
- Participate in admissions, discharges, and service authorization reviews.
- Monitor client progress toward treatment goals.
- Ensure compliance with Medicaid, DMAS, state licensing, and accreditation standards.
- Review progress notes, quarterly reviews, and discharge summaries.
- Maintain audit readiness and support internal chart reviews.
- Address documentation deficiencies and provide corrective guidance.
- Ensure risk management and incident reporting procedures are followed.
- Engage in continuing education, professional development
- Coordinate care with outpatient therapists, schools, DSS, probation, and community providers.
- Participate in treatment team meetings and case consultations.
- Provide clinical recommendations to leadership regarding program improvement.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new staff.
- Provide ongoing clinical education related to mental health interventions and best practices.
- Promote ethical practice and professional boundaries.
- Support staff retention through mentorship and professional growth.
- Perform additional administrative and operational duties as assigned
- Ensure staff implement evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions.
- Provide coaching related to behavioral interventions, family systems, and skill-building strategies.
- Conduct field supervision and shadow visits when necessary.
- Program Oversight
- Oversee delivery of MHSB and IIH services to ensure fidelity to program models.
- Monitor caseload assignments and service intensity requirements.
- Ensure individualized service plans (ISPs) and treatment plans meet medical necessity criteria.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related behavioral health field.
- Active Virginia clinical license (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or Licensed Eligible).
- Minimum of 2–3 years clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and families.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Intensive In-Home and Mental Health Skill Building services strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of DSM-5 diagnoses and treatment interventions.
- Knowledge of Medicaid documentation and medical necessity requirements.
- Crisis management and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced community-based environments.
