Now Hiring: Sound Engineer / Stage Manager
Wire & Wood Acoustic Coffeehouse & Listening Room is looking for a dependable and experienced Sound Engineer / Stage Manager to help manage live performances at our Greeneville listening room.
This is a hands-on position for someone who understands live sound and can also take responsibility for what happens on and around the stage. The person in this role will work directly with performers, prepare the stage, run soundchecks, mix the performance, and help keep each show organized and moving on schedule.
About the position
The Sound Engineer / Stage Manager will be responsible for the technical preparation and operation of scheduled performances at Wire & Wood.
Before the show, this person will review the artist’s technical needs, prepare the stage, place microphones and equipment, organize cables, and conduct a complete soundcheck.
During the performance, the engineer will operate the sound system, monitor the room mix and stage monitors, make adjustments as needed, and respond quickly to any technical problems.
As Stage Manager, this person will also help coordinate performers, communicate with the artist liaison and venue staff, keep the evening on schedule, and make sure the stage remains safe, organized, and ready throughout the event.
Responsibilities include
- Reviewing artist stage plots, input lists, and technical requirements
- Communicating technical needs with the artist, management, and Wire & Wood staff before the show
- Preparing and organizing the stage before performers arrive
- Setting up microphones, stands, direct boxes, monitors, cables, and other required equipment
- Connecting and testing instruments and audio equipment
- Conducting soundcheck with the artist
- Mixing vocals, instruments, stage monitors, and the front of house sound during the performance
- Maintaining clear, balanced sound at an appropriate volume for a listening room
- Making live adjustments throughout the performance
- Troubleshooting microphones, cables, monitors, instruments, routing, and other technical problems
- Keeping cables and stage equipment organized and safely positioned
- Coordinating stage changes between performers when more than one act is scheduled
- Helping artists understand when to load in, soundcheck, take the stage, and finish their set
- Communicating with the A&R Coordinator, Artist Liaison, performers, and venue staff throughout the event
- Keeping the show moving according to the scheduled timeline
- Maintaining a clean, professional, and performance-ready stage
- Properly shutting down and securing the sound system after the show
- Reporting damaged equipment, technical concerns, or supplies that need to be replaced
Equipment and venue
Wire & Wood operates a professional live sound system centered around a Midas M32R digital console.
The room hosts solo artists, acoustic duos, full bands, open mic nights, featured performers, and touring acts. The position may involve anything from a simple vocal and acoustic guitar setup to a larger multichannel performance.
The venue also uses a mult-camera recording system and OBS. Experience with recording, streaming, or routing audio for video is useful, but the primary responsibility of this position is excellent live sound and dependable stage management.
Who we are looking for
This position requires someone who already has practical experience with live sound. We need a person who can walk into a working venue, understand the equipment, communicate confidently with performers, and take responsibility for the technical side of the show.
The strongest candidate will be someone who:
- Has experience mixing live music
- Understands digital mixing consoles, signal flow, gain structure, EQ, compression, effects, buses, and monitor mixes
- Can identify and correct feedback, distortion, poor microphone placement, and routing problems
- Communicates clearly and respectfully with performers
- Can remain calm and make good decisions when problems arise
- Is organized, punctual, and dependable
- Understands that every artist and performance may require a different approach
- Can manage the stage without distracting from the performance
- Respects the listening room environment and understands that sound quality matters more than excessive volume
- Is available for evening and weekend performances
Experience
Previous live sound experience is required.
Experience with stage management, artist relations, live recording, OBS, mult-camera production, or the Midas M32 series is preferred.
Training will be provided on Wire & Wood’s specific equipment, routing, room setup, and show procedures, but applicants should already understand the fundamentals of running live sound.
Schedule
This is a part-time, event-based position.
Most work will take place during scheduled evening and weekend performances. Additional time may occasionally be needed for equipment preparation, technical rehearsals, special events, or larger productions.
