Job Summary
ACES Fuel Injection is seeking a hands-on Product Application, Calibration & Validation Engineer to support aftermarket EFI/ECU products in real-world engine and vehicle applications.
This is not a traditional OEM calibration-only role. This position focuses on real-world product application, startup, tuning, drivability validation, troubleshooting, new product testing, installation validation, RMA/QC diagnosis, technical training support, competitor benchmarking, and turning market feedback into clear, validated input for the engineering team.
The right candidate will be comfortable working on real vehicles and engines, using dyno and logging tools, solving field problems, validating new and existing products, and helping convert tuner/customer/market feedback into product improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead real-world application development of ACES EFI/ECU systems across various engine platforms and vehicle combinations
- Perform startup, base calibration, drivability tuning, idle tuning, cold/hot start tuning, transient tuning, and WOT validation
- Repeatedly test existing products in real-world applications to identify performance gaps, usability issues, quality concerns, and opportunities for improvement
- Support application testing for both existing products and new product/engine combinations before release
- Test, install, validate, and troubleshoot new products before release, including both electronic products and mechanical products related to EFI/ECU systems
- Support new product application work for items such as ECUs, throttle bodies, wiring harnesses, displays, transmission controllers, sensors, fuel system components, and related accessories
- Perform hands-on vehicle and engine testing to evaluate product function, fitment, usability, durability, and compatibility in real-world conditions
- Troubleshoot field issues related to crank/cam sync, sensor noise, wiring, grounding, fueling, ignition, idle, drivability, transmission behavior, and hardware compatibility
- Work closely with technicians, tuners, dealers, and internal teams to reproduce and verify issues found in the field
- Collect and organize logs, calibration files, test notes, videos, photos, and vehicle configuration data for engineering review
- Diagnose RMA and quality-related issues, collect field evidence, help identify patterns, and support root-cause analysis
- Turn real-world application issues into structured feedback for the engineering team, including bug reproduction conditions, calibration concerns, usability issues, and feature requests
- Collect issues and needs from customers, tuners, dealers, and the market, validate when and how they occur, and convert them into clear technical input for product improvement
- Support internal and external training through technical documentation, setup guides, troubleshooting content, and product videos
- Build and improve base maps, application notes, setup guides, troubleshooting documents, validation reports, and product feedback summaries
- Assist with competitive benchmarking by evaluating how competing aftermarket EFI/ECU systems and related products handle similar application scenarios
- Monitor market direction and product trends, and help identify practical product requirements from the field side
- Support beta testing of new firmware, software, and hardware before public release
- Provide technical support for key customers, dealers, and tuners when needed
- Support trade shows, product demos, dyno sessions, testing events, and new platform development projects as needed
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in aftermarket EFI/ECU tuning, installation, calibration, product application, testing, or validation engineering
- Strong understanding of internal combustion engine operation and electronic fuel injection systems
- Real experience with engine startup, drivability tuning, idle control, ignition timing, fueling, and troubleshooting
- Experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting aftermarket performance products on real vehicles and engines
- Strong hands-on electrical and wiring knowledge, including sensors, grounding, relays, power supply, and signal integrity basics
- Experience reading and analyzing datalogs, calibration files, and real-world vehicle behavior
- Familiarity with crank/cam trigger systems, Hall/VR sensors, MAP/TPS/IAT/CLT/wideband sensors, and common field issues
- Ability to test and evaluate both electronic and mechanical products in real application scenarios
- Ability to diagnose field issues, organize findings clearly, and communicate them effectively to engineering teams
- Ability to turn customer, tuner, dealer, and market feedback into structured technical input
- Strong documentation skills, including the ability to create technical notes, setup instructions, troubleshooting summaries, and validation feedback
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on working style
- Good communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with tuners, technicians, product teams, and engineering teams
- Passion for performance vehicles, aftermarket systems, and motorsports culture
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Holley, Haltech, FuelTech, MoTeC, HP Tuners, Link, AEM, or other aftermarket engine management systems
- Experience with chassis dyno or engine dyno operation
- Experience with GM LS/LT, Ford Coyote/Godzilla, SBC/BBC, Mopar, Nissan, Toyota, or other common swap/performance platforms
- Experience with DBW, transmission control, flex fuel, boost control, traction-related strategies, or CAN-based systems
- Familiarity with oscilloscope use for crank/cam or sensor troubleshooting
- Experience supporting dealers, tuners, or customers in a product/application role
- Experience with RMA diagnosis, product validation, or quality-related troubleshooting
- Experience creating technical training materials, setup guides, troubleshooting procedures, or product videos
- Familiarity with competitor aftermarket EFI/ECU products and market trends
