Job Summary
We are seeking a customer-focused and organized Marine Service Writer to join our growing marine service team. The Marine Service Writer serves as the primary liaison between customers and technicians, ensuring service requests are accurately documented, repairs are properly communicated, and work is completed efficiently. The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, mechanical aptitude, and experience in marine, automotive, RV, or heavy equipment service environments.
- Greet customers and schedule service appointments.
- Prepare repair orders and accurately document customer concerns.
- Communicate with technicians regarding diagnostics, repairs, and estimated completion times.
- Generate repair estimates and obtain customer approval for recommended services.
- Provide customers with regular updates on repair status.
- Coordinate parts ordering and service scheduling.
- Review completed work orders for accuracy and billing purposes.
- Process warranty claims and manufacturer documentation when applicable.
- Maintain detailed service records and customer files.
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the service process.
- Assist with invoicing, payment collection, and service department administrative tasks.
- Support service department operations to maximize efficiency and productivity.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Service Writer, Service Advisor, or Service Coordinator preferred.
- Marine industry experience is highly desirable; automotive, diesel, RV, powersports, or heavy equipment experience will also be considered.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple repair orders simultaneously.
- Basic understanding of marine engines, vessel systems, and repair terminology.
- Proficiency with computer systems, service management software, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of outboard, inboard, diesel, and propulsion systems.
- Experience processing warranty claims.
- Familiarity with marine manufacturers and service programs.
- Ability to explain technical information in a clear and professional manner.
- Sales and upselling experience for maintenance and service recommendations.
