This role provides installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance support for CNC machine tools at customer facilities nationwide, working for a CNC machine tool builder. The position reports to the CNC Field Service Manager and can be based anywhere east of the Mississippi River, with preference given to candidates located within an hour of a major airport, or based in Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, or Ohio.
Schedule: Full-time, field-based with extensive travel (up to 100% during weekdays), including overnights and occasional weekend travel for installations, service calls, and events.
Compensation: $35 to $55 per hour.
What You'll Do
The engineer installs new CNC machine tool systems at customer sites, including all options and accessories, and performs machine leveling, geometry checks, and final adjustments to ensure peak performance. Work includes diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and application-related issues, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions such as repair or replacement solutions. The role provides both onsite and remote technical support via phone, email, and other communication channels, and supports customers, distributors, and internal teams with technical guidance and problem resolution. The engineer also provides customer training, assists with project coordination, and supports trade shows and company events as needed, maintaining detailed service documentation and reporting throughout.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in CNC machine tool maintenance and service, covering both electrical and mechanical systems
- 5+ years of experience providing remote technical support within the machine tool industry
- Proven experience installing and servicing machining centers, including leveling and geometric alignment
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Experience with CNC control systems, including FANUC controls
- Solid understanding of power circuits and industrial electrical systems
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills
- Ability to travel extensively (up to 100% during weekdays, including overnights and occasional weekends) and work independently in the field
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical education or certification in electronics, mechatronics, industrial maintenance, or a related field
- Location within an hour of a major airport, or based in Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, or Ohio
- Experience supporting machine tool builders or original equipment manufacturers directly
