American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring prior Pre-Op and PACU experience, Epic proficiency, and a valid CA RN license.

Combined Pre-Op and PACU unit in a hospital setting staffed 24/7
-
Average daily census of 35–50 patients across 12 rooms and 24 beds
-
Patient population spans pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics (primarily adults aged 30s–100s; limited pediatrics)
-
Day shift with variable start times: 0500 in Pre-Op; 0800, 0900, or 1000 in PACU on weekdays; weekends staffed with 0600 and 0800 starts
-
Night shift option available: Mon–Thurs 2000–0430 and weekends 12-hour shifts with 1800 start (limited positions)
-
All shifts are 12 hours
-
On-call required 2–3 shifts per month (weekday call: 2200–0500; weekend call: 12-hour shifts at 0600 or 1800 starts) with a 30-minute callback requirement

Travelers are first priority for floating; float required within Surgical Services (Pre-Op and Post-Op), with rare float to outpatient ortho or same-day surgery center

Busy unit with the majority of cases scheduled as add-on
-
Surgical services include: Bariatrics, Cardiothoracic, General, GYN, GYN-Onc, Neuro, Spine, Ortho, Plastics, Podiatry, Urology, Vascular, and Endovascular

Very active Robotic program (6 robots) and busy Ortho total joint program
-
May cover interventional radiology, EP, Cath, pulmonology, CT/MRI patients during off hours or when recovery area is full
-
ICU, open heart, and neurosurgery patients recover in the ICU unless the ICU is on hold

Medication system: Omnicell
-
EMR: Epic (proficiency required)
-
Active CA RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS
-
Minimum 2 years of experience in ER, ICU, or PACU required
-
Must have prior Pre-Op AND PACU (Phase I) experience

Critical care experience required
-
Prior travel nursing experience required

Proficiency with Epic EMR required
-
Skills required: dysrhythmia recognition and management, IV insertion, airway assessment, operative/procedural consent, straight urinary catheterization (male and female), and pain assessment and management

Permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the facility

1 professional reference required for consideration

All nurses are trained to work in both Pre-Op and PACU; RNs may care for patients in both pre- and post-operative settings when called in or during off shifts

Unit is supported by patient care technicians

Previous charge nurse experience preferred

Trauma Level I and Level II experience preferred

Teaching hospital experience preferred

Scrubs: Royal Blue (provided by facility)
-
Preferred skills include arterial line management, bariatric procedures (gastric bypass, sleeve, lap band), robotic surgery, a wide range of surgical specialties, and advanced medication administration (vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, reversal agents, etc.)

Up to 2 scheduling requests will be considered per contract; block scheduling is rarely granted

No RTO within the first two weeks of the assignment; RTO should not exceed 7 consecutive days
-
Holiday coverage required; travelers are expected to work every other holiday with preference for at least 2–3 holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, and NYE
-
Former employees of this facility must have been separated for at least 2 years before returning as a traveler

First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

Local candidates (permanent address within 50 miles of the facility) are not eligible

8 hours of pre-start online modules are required for this PACU position
