2 EMERGENCY MEDICINE PHYSICIAN - Indian Health Service
We have been awarded two premier Indian Health Service (IHS) emergency medicine contracts serving tribal communities across the Southwest. These are standalone positions with different compensation structures, start dates, and commitment lengths. Both offer competitive pay, onsite housing, and the opportunity to deliver critical emergency care in rural, culturally rich healthcare environments serving the Hopi, Navajo, and San Juan Southern Paiute tribes. POSITION 1: Polacca, Arizona Hopi Indian Health Service Compensation: $325/hour Housing: Provided Start: January 1, 2027 Duration: 7 months (Jan-Jul) Patient Population: 7,000 (Hopi & Navajo tribes) Shifts: 117 day, 70 night Case Type: Stabilize and transfer model Requirements: ABEM board certified, active state license, IHS credentialing
POSITION 2: Shiprock, New Mexico Northern Navajo Medical Center Compensation: $335/hour all inclusive Housing: Included Start: October 1, 2026 Duration: 12+ months (2026-2027) Patient Population: 244,000 (Navajo Nation) Coverage: 24/7 ED and SuperTrack Shifts: Days, evenings, nights Requirements: ABEM board certified, active state license, IHS credentialing
QUALIFICATIONS Board-certified or board-eligible in Emergency Medicine Minimum 3 years emergency medicine experience 500+ ED hours in past 12 months Current MD/DO license (any U.S. state) Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS certifications Fitness-for-duty certificate Immunizations: MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Td, TB screening, Flu Pass Level I and II background checks English proficiency required Basic computer skills
DISQUALIFIERS License suspension/revocation Loss of privileges or board certification Sexual misconduct, violent crimes, abuse Illegal drug use DUI within 5 years
RESPONSIBILITIES Provide emergency care in ED and Fast Track Manage full spectrum of emergent/urgent complaints Document in electronic health record before end of shift Consult with staff and specialists Follow IHS protocols and credentialing standards
ALTERNATIVE POSITIONS Family Medicine/Internal Medicine: $300/hour + housing Hospitalist: $250/hour + housing
