The Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic (MOS 91B) is an Army enlisted MOS responsible for supervising and performing maintenance, repair, and recovery operations on light and heavy wheeled vehicles, their trailers, and associated material handling equipment goarmy.com+1. This role is critical to Army mobility, ensuring vehicles remain mission-capable in training, garrison, and field operations.
Core Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repair: Inspect, service, maintain, repair, replace, adjust, and test wheeled vehicles, subsystems, and components, including engines, transmissions, drivetrains, brakes, steering, suspension, air conditioning, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and fuel systems
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using Army diagnostic tools and technical manuals
- Recovery Operations: Perform field-level vehicle recovery, including towing and battlefield damage assessments, often under challenging conditions
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) to sustain readiness and meet deadlines
- Supervision & Training: At higher grades, supervise 4–5 junior enlisted mechanics, train them in PMCS, and provide technical guidance
- Fleet Management: Maintain accountability for vehicles and equipment valued in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, manage toolkits, and support motor pool operations

Pay: $34,041.60 - $180,025.20 per year
