The Prototype Solutions & Technical Support Technician is responsible for the deployment, the operation, the maintenance, the continuous support of prototype equipment, test assets, and vehicle development projects. This role provides hands-on technical support to engineering teams and end users while ensuring the reliability and operational readiness of prototype systems.
She/he works closely with engineers, project teams, and stakeholders to support prototype development, testing activities, troubleshooting, and technical operations across multiple locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support engineers during design, development, integration, and validation phases of prototype projects.
- Procure, prepare, install, configure, and commission prototype hardware and equipment.
- Perform technical modifications, adaptations, repairs, and upgrades to maintain prototype functionality and availability.
- Prepare, operate, and maintain prototype vehicles, test benches, and associated equipment.
- Conduct technical testing, measurements, inspections, and first-level diagnostics.
- Travel between multiple sites within the region as required to maintain operational continuity and support deployed prototype assets.
- Provide Level 1 and Level 2 technical support to engineers, project teams, and end users.
- Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and embedded systems issues and implement corrective actions.
- Document testing activities, maintenance actions, and technical findings.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of prototyping tools, equipment, methods, and operational processes.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and company standards.
Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting prototype systems, testing activities, laboratory environments, or embedded systems
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel between customer, engineering, or testing sites.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proficient with MS Office and Google Suite applications
- Must be able to work any shift. This is union mandated work
- Combination of workshops, laboratory, garage, prototype vehicle, and office environments.
- Frequent hands-on work with prototype hardware and test equipment.
- Occasional lifting of equipment and materials
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of electrical, electronic, and wiring systems.
- Familiarity with embedded electronics and vehicle communication networks.
- Experience using automotive diagnostic and troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to perform technical measurements, testing, fault isolation, and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Proficiency with standard computer tools and technical reporting systems.
