About the school
The Montessori School of Bowling Green serves children from six weeks through Kindergarten in small, carefully prepared communities. We are a Montessori school in practice, not just in name — our environments are calm and unhurried, our groups are small, and our work is built around observing children closely and giving them room to do things for themselves.
We are hiring assistants for two of our youngest communities:
- Nido (six weeks to approximately 12–15 months) — about six children
- Young Children's Community / YCC (approximately 12 months to age 2½–3) — about ten children
We may also fill a floater position supporting all three communities. You do not need to choose — apply once and we'll talk about where you fit best.
What the work actually looks like
You'll work alongside a lead guide, supporting the daily life of the community:
- Caring for children's physical needs with patience and dignity — feeding, diapering, dressing, rest — treating each of these as a genuine interaction with a person, not a task to get through
- Preparing and restoring the environment so it is clean, orderly, and ready for children each morning and after each cycle of work
- Observing quietly and stepping in only when a child truly needs you — much of this work is learning when not to intervene
- Modeling grace and courtesy in how you speak, move, and handle materials
- Supporting outdoor time, transitions, meals, and rest
- Communicating warmly and clearly with families at arrival and dismissal
- Keeping daily records in Brightwheel
Who tends to do well here
- Calm. This is the single most important quality, and it is not teachable in two weeks.
- Genuinely likes very young children — including the messy, repetitive, and unglamorous parts
- Comfortable being still and observant rather than constantly directing
- Reliable. Small communities mean one absence is felt by everyone.
- Willing to be coached. We will teach you Montessori; we cannot teach you to be warm.
- Physically able to lift and carry infants and young toddlers, sit on the floor, and move between floor and standing throughout the day
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED (required by Kentucky child care licensing)
- Must complete a Kentucky child care background check — including fingerprinting — and be cleared before beginning work with children
- Current TB documentation (a statement from a health professional or negative test) before the first day
- At least 18 years of age
- Prior experience with infants and toddlers is welcome but not required. No Montessori background is required — we will train you.
What we offer
- $15.00–$16.00 per hour, based on experience
- Monday–Friday, 7:15 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. — no evenings, no weekends
